Today is Monday. On Friday night someone may be $50,000,000 richer. Though not everybody dreams of winning a lottery, many do; certainly myself included. I like to sit and daydream about what I would do not just for me but who I could help, spoil and surprise. I can’t lie – the advertisement on TV, where a lottery winner calls his parents and surprises them with a cottage; it might occasionally give me goose bumps. That’s me…a little sappy sometimes. I’m OK with that.
With a $50,000,000 draw coming up this week, here at Three Things we thought about all that could be done for organizations, charities or non-profits, who are working to create positive change in the world. House the homeless, support children and youth, address addiction, help animals, provide medical support…the list is endless of good works by so many people. There are an estimated 165,000 non-profits and charities in Canada and more than 1.5 million non-profit organizations registered in the USA.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has used a slogan in the past, ‘Just Imagine’. It resonated with us. Just imagine what a win like this weeks Lotto Max could do for different organizations that, for many, struggle to keep the good works moving ahead.
So, we have decided to use social media for good. Someone will eventually win. Why not us? Particularly, why could charities and non-profits not be the real winners? We have bought a ticket for this Friday and if we win the jackpot, we will give $1,000,000 to 50 organizations. We want to invite you to join us in doing good for others.
Should this be the winning ticket, and if you visit our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/3ThingsConsulting) and share the picture on the page you will have a say in which 50 organizations receive $1,000,000 each. If you like our page you’ll have two votes.
Follow us on Twitter (@remember3things) and retweet our picture and you’ll have another vote. Follow us on Twitter – and yup, you get it – one more vote. If there is a particular organization or cause you believe in, why not spread the word to others? You never know. Like the OLG says, just imagine.
Using online voting those who share or retweet the picture will be invited to first propose organizations to receive the money. At least 25 of the organizations selected will come from those of you who help us. We will then have a second voting system to determine the final list of recipients.
Ya, it’s a long shot. We know. In fact, the odds are about 1 in 28,633,528. Again, we simply just imagine…the good that can come from social media.
