Really are they? Are they alone going to stop bullying in our schools, playgrounds, youth organizations or online?
Across the country in schools and organizations adults are wearing pink to take a stand against bullying. Like the students and youth alongside them, they are saying enough is enough. This will certainly continue to raise awareness. Yet real change will come with children and youth shifting their behaviors when they see us as adults, shift ours. Role model what NOT bullying looks like: at home, when watching awards shows, when commenting on the news, when driving….the list goes on. We’ll be wearing pink today, because this youth generated movement matters – and it does work. But more importantly, as adults who support youth, we will be bravely, albeit uncomfortably, be self-reflecting on our own behaviors – where we can continue to work on ourselves and how that, is what will really work.
